FTIR/Summa Canister Air Monitoring System
In February, 2004 FPC TX received approval from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to perform a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP)
in conjunction with the settlement of an agreed order.
The SEP provides an air monitoring station located just northwest of the plant. The air monitoring station consists of an Open Path Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR)
which is designed for continuous and simultaneous monitoring of the following target compounds:
Benzene
1,3 Butadiene
Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM)
Ethylene Dichloride (EDC)
Ethylene
Ethylene Oxide
Hydrogen Chloride
Additionally, a Summa Canister System is being used to calculate the annual average for Benzene, 1,3 Butadiene and Ethylene Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM)
and Ethylene Dichloride (EDC).
